FREED … The third music series by Marc Soucy begins with: THE DESCENDANTS OF ELIZA DELANEY
“The Descendants Of Eliza Delaney” is named after my wife’s great great grandmother, born in Ireland in the 1800’s. As a young woman, she moved to the English west midlands to seek work as a housekeeper. She was a part of the Irish diaspora, the dispersion of many thousands who sought a better life.
Many went to England, and many went to America. In both places, they contributed their sweat, talents, and culture to the growth of both nations and their economies as the industrial revolution unfolded.
The piece is a musical “suite” with each section focusing on a certain style of Irish—or Celtic—music. I of course deviate from the formula here and there. All melodic instruments and most percussion are played by hand on keyboards. Only a software based virtual drummer (no A.I.) is used in the second “rock” section to add realism. (It is extremely difficult to play a skiffle beat on keyboards. :)
